Quest 184

[Private//Hackable by Friends]

Everything really is changing, isn't it? It seems as though quite a bit has, in the past few months. And it's hard to believe it's May already, too; that's two months now, that I've been nineteen, and in another three months I'll have been here for two whole years.

But a lot has already happened this year, really. First Sam went home and was alive again when he returned, and then I dreamed myself back home to Daventry for a bit, and then all the visitors came to see us in Feburary, too. And then March was an awful month, what with Sam and I--er...what with all that, but then I turned nineteen and Alexander managed to come for it and that was really rather all right, and then Adrastus came to visit again, which...er, wasn't. And all this time we've been waiting for something bad to come around, and yet, it really hasn't.

But will it?

Perhaps we do all forget things too easily, in the face of the new things that happen. Or perhaps we only choose certain things to pay attention to at all, because it makes it easier to carry on from day to day when we don't think about all of it. Doesn't everyone do that, in one way or another? We moved my room in the Warehouse so we wouldn't have to think about what happened in the hallway between our two bedrooms every time we passed by. We don't think of the horrors of October because it's May now, and it's a whole half a year away on either side. We don't think of Adrastus visiting back then, or the fact that it's been very nearly a year now since he attacked us as the hair monster, and his mother came to collect him.

Very nearly a year. It's strange; it really doesn't seem like it's been that long at all.

And now, yesterday, it rained cake from the sky. A month after Adrastus visited and did nothing at all, a year after he attacked us as the hair monster, and it rains cake--his favorite. Did lemon cake fall from the sky yesterday, along with all the other varieties? Will he be along to clean it all up again, or will the normal rain outside now wash it all away before he can arrive?

It was like this when he came the last time, too. Bad weather makes for bad omens, doesn't it? That time, it was an earthquake, and now...

Perhaps it's only rain. But if it's not...mm. We'll just have to be prepared for anything, I suppose.

My, it really is raining out today, isn't it? Though I think I prefer this sort of rain to the variety we had yesterday. As unpleasant as it may be to go outside and get soaked through with rain, I imagine it'd be considerably worse to end up covered in cake and frosting, instead. All that sugar would make for a terribly sticky situation, I'm sure.

Still, it seems as though things are settling down a bit now. Monday's curse made for quite a troublesome day, what with the stories and rhymes running wild all about, and then yesterday it was falling cake, but today it seems as though it's nothing but rain--and ordinary rain, too. It may make things a bit more difficult for anyone trying to get around without getting wet, but it's certainly more peaceful than many of the curses we've been having lately, and much less...obtrusive, as well. Though I think it'd be better if people stayed indoors this evening if they could at all help it, because it rather sounds as though it's getting worse out there. I wonder if it will let up by tomorrow?

And I wonder if weather like this can really be called a curse, or if it ought to be termed as something else entirely. Perhaps it's simply the aftermath of the one we had yesterday--first it rained cake, and now it's water to wash it all away again. Or perhaps it's something to do with the curse we had on Monday, since I seem to recall a rhyme about rain falling down to wash spiders out. And I really do hope that won't be the case with this rainfall, but one never knows. Or perhaps it's simply the weather of the City, and there's no connection whatsoever. That might be for the best, really, if it was.

But in any case, it's raining, and that means I'll have to entertain myself indoors for the time being. Perhaps I ought to curl up with a book and a blanket and listen to the rain as I read. Or perhaps I'll go bake a cake myself, since all that cake yesterday rather put me in the mood for some of my own. Or I suppose I might get out my Rollerblades and go for a skate around the open parts of the Warehouse; there's certainly enough room for it, and it's far too wet to go skating outside, of course. There are plenty of ways to spend a rainy evening, after all.

Though, er, I can't help but wondering--did anyone happen to notice if lemon cakes were falling from the sky, too, along with all the others that came down yesterday?
