...Huh? What the—oh, drat, what now? Genesta, is that you? Hello! Anyone...?

Honestly, I’m hardly home for an hour and all of a sudden I’m getting whisked off again. It’d be nice to have a little warning for once, so I could at least pack something...

Er...hello? Well, this doesn't look like Tamir, so...whoever it is who summoned me, I’m here and listening! Hello!

[At that, Rosella's pretty much completely lost, but her brow furrowed as she tried to puzzle it out.]

But don't the explosions damage the carria--er, car?

*Sam shakes his head, it's a fair enough question.*

No. They're small and not too powerful. It's like... uhhh, do you know what a cannon is?

A cannon? ...Sort of?

[OOC: Technology in Daventry is really iffy. Archery was emphasized in Rosella's upbringing, so I'm guessing cannons weren't around yet...but then again, she's read Shakespeare, and one of the stage directions in Shakespeare calls for cannon fire, so...yeah, I'm totally faking this. She's a smart girl; she'll figure it out somehow.]

Okay, so... think of a cannon, only instead of a ball in it, there's a metal stick that's attached to an arm that's connected to the cannon. When the explosion happens the arm is pushed partially out, which creates the movement needed to run the car.

[She's tired, so it takes her a minute, but she starts to catch on.]

So the explosion happens inside, and that pushes the arm out? Then that's why the rest of it isn't hurt...right? And then pushing the arm must somehow turn the part that the wheels are connected to, since there's nothing pulling them? How confusing...

*Sam was impressed, he was from a world with cars and he took a bit to completely grasp the mechanics.*

You got it. I can show you when you're not so tired. Fixing cars is king of what I do. Well, what I'm learning to do.

[She shook her head, laughing softly.]

It seems like it'd be so much easier to just enchant it. Or ride a horse. This way seems so complicated...but I think I'd like to see how it all works.

*Right, just enchant it. Man, magical worlds had things easy. Shaking his head, Sam pulled into the warehouse.*

We don't have magic in my world. And cars go faster and are easier to care for than horses. Not as much shoveling.

[Rosella seemed perplexed as she glanced around the warehouse, as though she'd been expecting something far different.]

But are cars as much fun to ride as horses? Have you done both?

*Sam turned the car off and got out, glancing around at home sweet home.*

Uhhh, they're fun to drive. And someone here offered to let me ride some horses, but she left before I was better enough to do it.

Well, now I've done both, and I think I still like horses better. Though I would like to see just how fast your car can go, sometime.

[She gazed around a little more.]

Is...this the place? You live here?

Yeah, but you didn't drive. And motorcycles look a lot more fun.

*Sam nods and goes over to flick a light on, the warehouse coming. The bottom level has Sam's Vespa and motorcycle and some space for the other people's projects. The stairs leading up go to the living areas.*

It used to belong to a woman named Saya and I lived with her. But she left...

[The light switch alone would've been enough to impress her, but the cars and motorcycle are the icing on the cake. She looks around from side to side, rooted to the spot.]

You lit the--no, wait, those can't be torches. More of your machines?

...I'm sorry about your friend.

*Oh man, Sam is going to have to explain a lot of stuff to Rosella. A lot of it he doesn't even understand himself.*

More technology, yeah. Electricity. Think of it like... weak lighting you can direct.

It's okay. She wasn't really happy here.

[She yawned a little, still curious but slightly more concerned about finding a place to sleep than about unraveling all the mysteries of the things she didn't understand.]

So it's magic for worlds and people who don't have magic.

What about you? Are you happy here?

*Sam noticed the yawn, which made him yawn again too. Stupid yawns. Shrugging, he headed towards the stairs.*

Yeah, technology is magic anyone can use, I guess. And I'm mostly happy. Had some really, really bad things happen but some really good ones too.

[Rosella followed, thankful that these stairs were the normal variety, and not the slick, treacherous sort she'd encountered in Tamir.]

I hope there have been more good than bad, at least.

*Sam shrugged again as he stepped up to the living quarters section of the warehouse.*

I don't know. The good is definitely worth it, I'll say that much.

Then I guess that's what you have to cling to when things get bad. That no matter how bad the bad things are, the good things are worth being here to experience.

[She fidgeted a bit, still looking around as she followed him up.]

Where should I...?

Over this way.

*Sam motioned her to follow and lead her to one of the suites that were on this level.*

There's a bedroom in there with a bathroom connected. I'm just down the hall if you need something. Umm, I have to warn you if you try and kill me in the night the magic on the warehouse will trigger and you'll be thrown outside.

[She followed him into the suite and looked around gratefully, familiarizing herself with her new surroundings. She's tired enough now that she's not really thinking about what she's saying when she answers:]

I wouldn't try to kill you in the night. You're not Lolotte. And I lost Cupid's bow back in Tamir, anyway.

*Well, at least things weren't going to be awkward and he wouldn't lay awake at night wondering just what all that meant.*

I'm going to chalk all that up to the world hopping lag and you can explain to me in the morning just what set of circumstances would need to happen for you to kill me.

[The only thought on Rosella's mind right then was bed, so it never occurred to her to consider how awkward that might've seemed.]

Mm. In the morning, then. I promise I won't bother you tonight--I just want a safe place so I can go to sleep.

No worries, the wards should protect you too.

*Sam wasn't sure they would protect her if he tried to stab her, but since he wasn't going to... she was safe.*

Get some rest, I'll see you when you wake up. I mean, not RIGHT when you wake up. You know, after you come out and stuff...

[She hesitated, as something else occurred to her.]

Oh, um...if it's not too much trouble, do you maybe have something I could change into? I don't want to get your bed all wet with my dress...
