Quest 141

[Accidental Video Post]

[Here is Rosella, sitting quietly in the Library with her nose buried in a dusty old book with a leather-bound cover. Next to her is a tall stack of books, equally dusty and equally leather-bound, and all of which look relatively ancient. It's not necessarily a neat stack, so some of the spines are turned away from the camera, but of the few that can be read, there is a common theme--all have something to do with symbols, iconography, or runology.

The book Rosella is currently poring over, when she tips it in such a way that the cover can be read--perhaps as she turns a page--is entitled, "The Good Housekeeper's Book Of Common Icons and Enchanted Runes", and every so often she retrieves a piece of notebook paper from the table next to her, holding it up in comparison to a page in the book. After each comparison, she pauses, frowns, and resumes reading once again, occasionally muttering to herself.
]

...May have the unfortunate side effect of causing carrots to sprout from one's--no, that's not it...

[After a short while, she eventually glances over, and notices her Network device is on.]

Oh, drat it all. How long have you been on?

[She reaches for the device, presumably to turn its recording off, but then pauses and glances at her piece of notebook paper once again. After a moment of consideration, she picks up the paper and holds it up for the camera:]

Well...oh, it couldn't hurt to ask, anyway. I don't suppose anyone could tell me what it is this symbol means, could you?

[She gives the camera a single hopeful look, then reaches for it as if to switch it off, and the feed abruptly ends.]

[OOC: So yeah, three guesses which canon bled over into Rosella's yesterday, and the first two don't count. She's currently convinced that the design itself is some kind of magic symbol of power, and she's trying to figure out what it is. Have at her? =D

EDIT: Regarding potential fourth-walling--fourth wall away as much as you want, as far as Zelda canon information goes, but just don't tell her outright that it's a video game, please?]

Umm... Well, sort of. There are a lot of worlds where magic is real but it's so rare that most people don't know what the "rules" are. So you saying that tells me a lot about your world, even if it's just telling me what you don't know.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Yes, I see, that makes sense. And a lot of worlds don't have any magic at all, which is really the strangest thing! But no, we have all sorts of magic in Daventry. My brother is a magician, even.

[identity profile] mypace-musume.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
My world doesn't. As far as I know, but because technology has multiplied the flow of information, I think I know pretty well. Meeting people who could use magic here in the City was a shock.

Your brother? Wow, that sounds interesting. Is a "magician" different from a "wizard" in your world?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're from one of those sorts of worlds, then. Er. That is, a modern one, like the City?

Mmhmm, my twin brother. And yes, there is a rather large difference between the two. A magician is really just anyone that practices magic. Wizards are the sort that have studied magic for years upon years, and they've learned how to do all sorts of things that magicians can't.

[identity profile] mypace-musume.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my world is... Well, you could almost spend a day in the City and not realize you weren't in a city on my world. It's a lot like here. Except for the curses. And the magic, and the kidnapping, and the clock. You know.

How hard is it to become a magician? Can anybody do it or do you have to have a knack?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, other than all that, of course.

Anyone could do it, I'm sure, if they had everything they needed for it. They'd need a spellbook, of course, and a magic wand, and all the proper ingredients. But I'm sure anyone could, if they had all that, and the patience and concentration to work it properly.

Hmmm... I wish I could try that sometime. Maybe another curse...

It can be quite dangerous, though, if you start doing things wrong. I did, once, and I accidentally put myself to sleep for a good two days after it.
