Quest 260

Conversation with Edgar on 3/26/2011 5:29:01 PM:

(5:29:19 PM) Private conversation with Edgar started.
(5:29:29 PM) Me: Hey, I'm here. Sorry about the wait, my wi-fi took three tries to find a connection.
(5:29:54 PM) Edgar: No trouble at all. How was the trip?
(5:30:01 PM) Me: Oh, you know, the same as always.
(5:30:08 PM) Me: Long and boring.
(5:30:11 PM) Edgar: I see.
(5:30:15 PM) Edgar: Sorry to hear that.
(5:30:33 PM) Edgar: Anyway, I just wanted to give you a heads-up, about the new album.
(5:30:42 PM) Me: I thought we had everything finalized in our last meeting?
(5:30:52 PM) Edgar: There were a few last-minute alterations.
(5:30:57 PM) Me: Like what?
(5:31:23 PM) Me: ...Like what?
(5:31:28 PM) Edgar: Sorry, had a thing.
(5:32:11 PM) Edgar: Listen, they love the new direction. But they're pushing for a few modifications to your image.
(5:32:14 PM) Edgar: To complement it.
(5:32:26 PM) Me: Oh, don't tell me it's the hair thing again.
(5:32:30 PM) Edgar: Rosella.
(5:32:51 PM) Me: Honestly, we had a deal! What does it matter what color my hair is, so long as I can sing the part?
(5:33:01 PM) Edgar: It's an image question, Rosella. It's all just business and public relations. You know that.
(5:33:29 PM) Me: Because being blonde makes me incapable of singing a certain genre of music? That's news to me.
(5:33:48 PM) Edgar: No one is saying that.
(5:34:25 PM) Edgar: But they think that you having a look to fit the mood wouldn't hurt.
(5:34:31 PM) Edgar: Which is why they've decided to leak the photos.
(5:34:38 PM) Me: WE HAD A DEAL!
(5:35:00 PM) Edgar: You just said yourself your hair color shouldn't matter to the music.
(5:35:02 PM) Edgar: They'll argue it goes both ways.
(5:35:12 PM) Me: It doesn't matter! We had a deal!
(5:35:20 PM) Me: I compromised on the album cover.
(5:35:23 PM) Me: I'm not doing it live!
(5:35:33 PM) Edgar: Rosella, be reasonable. You know this is how the business works.
(5:36:02 PM) Me: I have to go. We'll discuss this later.
(5:36:13 PM) Edgar: Look, I'll talk to them again, but I doubt it's going to do any good.
(5:36:17 PM) Edgar: I just wanted to give you some advance notice about what's happening on this end.
(5:36:29 PM) Me: I can't believe this. I should sue for breach of verbal contract.
(5:36:45 PM) Edgar: You know I can't comment on that.
(5:36:49 PM) Edgar: But say hello to your brother for me.
(5:37:16 PM) Me: ...Yes, I'll do that.
(5:37:19 PM) Me: Thanks for the heads-up.
(5:37:22 PM) Edgar: Have a good vacation, Rosella. I'll hear from you later?
(5:37:26 PM) Me: Yes, I'll let you know. Thanks again.
(5:37:29 PM) Edgar: No problem.

[Audio Recording]

[A click of a keyboard heralds the beginning of the recording, followed by another few rapid tapping noises; a few moments later, an unfinished audio track begins to play softly through the speakers. After playing through about twenty seconds, it stops, the keyboard clicks again, and the clip replays--this time with a murmured voice quietly singing along.]

Sing for me, little mockingbird, your voice, my whim, never speak a word--

[No, no good. The clip rewinds; the voice tries again.]

Bird within an iron cage...gilded cage...golden cage...

[No, still not quite. It rewinds again and plays through alone, with no voice in accompaniment, and then stops. There is a rustle of fabric as someone slumps a little lower in her chair, and her fingers tap lightly against the keys in thought.]

And the emperor said, go fetch the nightingale and bring it to sing for my son, and the servants traveled far and wide and caught it, and put it into a cage, and brought it back for the little prince...but it stayed silent in its golden cage, and never sang a single note.

[The music rewinds once more.]

Nightingale in a golden cage, that's me, never free, tethered fast to my stage...

[Hm. Better. And after another few clicks of the keys, the audio ends.]

[OOC: Rockstar Rosella, ahoy! AU details are here; feel free to hit me up in that thread if you want to plot something out! I'll roll with pretty much anything. She's hanging out in a cafe in the Square, puttering around on her laptop, so feel free to chat with her via the Network or action her up to say hello!

Also, for people who want to hear the melody she's singing, it's here. :D]
wandbreaker: (Edmund - can we stop at Starbucks?)

[personal profile] wandbreaker 2011-03-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
....I don't get it.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
...Is there something to get?
wandbreaker: (Edmund - Caspian said whut?)

[personal profile] wandbreaker 2011-03-27 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
This music is...I don't get it.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's something new I'm trying. A change of pace, really.
wandbreaker: (Edmund - derp derp derp for once)

[personal profile] wandbreaker 2011-03-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, I'm likely the worst person to judge any of this.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just in something of a mood, I'm afraid, and messing around with songs of no consequence is one more way of blowing off some steam. I doubt it's anything that I'll ever officially put my name to, anyway.

It's not bad, I don't think.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's not bad, it's terrible. But it all has to start somewhere.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps you ought to try something besides a familiar story.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
It's the one that's on my mind right now. It can't be helped. And this song likely won't ever see the light of day, anyway, so it doesn't matter much what I do with it.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's seen a bit of the light of day now, you know.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I know. Call it a vindictive mood.

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
So you're taunting the rest of us with unfinished lyrics, then.

You're- coming up with a new song?

[OoC: Playing her off as a fan, hope that's alright? Also, the lyrics just keep reminding me of 'Green finch' from Sweeney Todd.]

Sure, that's fine!

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really only playing around with this one, at the moment. Do you like it?

[identity profile] doujin-dork.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
You're coming up with a new song, and you're asking my opinion?

[identity profile] doujin-dork.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! It's great. The music's wonderful, and the words are- [unfinished, but crapcrap can't say that] definitely coming along great!

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have to get my feedback from somewhere, don't I?

I know it's still unfinished, but I'm very glad you enjoyed it so far.

[identity profile] doujin-dork.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, uh, yeah, that's true.

Oh, definitely! I'm really glad that I was able to hear it! Is this how you usually write your lyrics?

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
My, how pretty! But such sad lyrics.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the lyrics aren't set yet, fortunately. They may turn out to be quite happy, once I finally get them the way I want them. One never knows.

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well I certainly hope so. But don't you plan out the lyrics beforehand?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I do sometimes. This time the music got into my head and wouldn't go away until I worked it out, but I still don't have the words for it yet. My songs usually go in pieces that way--either I have the words and write the tune to fit them, or I come up with the tune and keep it until the words are right.

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
My! That's so interesting. I never had any idea music was quite so fickle like that.
