...uppose I can always wrap some of it up and give it to the Welcome Center, and just keep some of it for ourselves, and--oh, bother, this was always much easier when I could count on Sam to finish off all the...

...umpkin, one whole apple, half of cherry, one and half again of custard. I wonder why the custard didn't go very well? It tasted all right to me...hmm. And then there's half a turkey still, and the cranberry sauce--and I still haven't looked at the ceiling, thank you--and bowls and things of the potatoes and dressing and goodness, all the cookies, and--oh, when did this turn on?

[A pause.]

Er...well, um, since this is already on, I suppose I might as well ask, really: if anyone would like some, er, leftover baked things from Gi--from Thanksgiving, please do let me know, won't you? Because really, I'd be more than happy to oblige.

[OOC: So Rosella likes big Thanksgiving dinners. Rosella also has an unfortunate tendency to bake up a storm when she's stressed out. Put the two together and what do you get? A veritable mountain of leftovers. >> Please take some. Please.

It's a funny little tradition that reminds me of him, really. And especially now that he's gone, it's one I like to keep up, even if it is rather ridiculous in practice.

I think most traditions are a little ridiculous. It makes sense, though -- and it's more healthy than other things you could be doing.

Oh? What other sorts of things, might I ask?

Obsessing. You're remembering the good times but not dwelling -- well, as far as I can tell.

Oh, I see. Well, er, it's been quite some time since he's been gone--more than a year, now, I'm afraid. So I suppose I was rather bad off for a while, but time goes on and there's nothing to do but go on with it, is there? So it got better, really. It always does.

[ Really, if everyone had that attitude toward grief, it would have made her life before coming here a lot easier. ]

I'm glad.

[ And then she changes the subject. ]

Are you still looking for people to take leftovers?

Oh, yes, very much so. Would you like some? A few of the pies have been taken already, but there's still plenty left, and cookies, and that's just the desserts--there's quite a bit left over from dinner, too.

Yes please. I think we're good on desserts, but some of the rest would be nice. One of my roommates is possessive of the stove.

She's a fine person to be named after. Though she did have a rather unfortunate father, I must say. But sometimes that's just how things go, I suppose.

[ Yes, that would definitely help. Ariadne's not really too sure what to think of it at the moment, however -- could this be one of her own projections? But that would make this whole place a part of her subconscious, and that doesn't make sense at all. ]

It seems as if a lot of people in those stories were a bit... unpleasant. But like you said, that's just how things happen, sometimes. Besides, she got away from him.

And she did, didn't she? And ended up the wife of a god, besides, which isn't so very bad at all. It's certainly better than ending up eaten, which is how some people's fates turned out.

[ Ariadne relays the directions from the fountain to the townhouse, pausing once in a while to make sure Rosella caught what she said. ]

Definitely. I mean, being left behind by Theseus was harsh, but it did turn out okay in the end.

And really, he could hardly have helped that, anyway. Disobeying a god rarely turns out well for anyone concerned.

I can't say I've had any experience in that sort of thing, but the stories certainly make it pretty clear.

Well, most of the gods I've met have been pleasant enough, really, but on the other hand, I've never disobeyed them, either. I've heard the stories, though, too, and you're right, there's really no doubt about it.

[ There's a slight pause. ] Where have you met gods?

Oh, back home! They're a bit rare, but one does happen across them every so often, if one knows where to look.

Where are you from, then?

It's a kingdom called Daventry. It's all right if you haven't heard of it, though; I've gotten rather used to being the odd one out that way, coming from a place no one seems to know. But it's a very lovely place, and not very much like this City, either.

I haven't, unfortunately. [ Interesting that no one else has heard of it, though. ]

Are gods and that sort of thing common there?

Well, as common as one might expect a god to be, I suppose. My father has met King Neptune before, though, and I've been acquainted with Cupid and Pan, myself. But I think we're rather the exception, and not the usual.

Pan is the flute-player, right?

Mmhmm, that's right! Though he's quite good with a lute, too, actually.
