Quest 240

[Voice Post]

[The audio snaps on with a click, but there is a somewhat awkward pause before any speaking occurs; then, after some hesitant shuffling, Rosella clears her throat and begins.]

Yes, well, er. I'm sure that several people have noticed by now that there's, um...that there seems to be a unicorn on the loose in the City. And, er, that's exactly so, because it turns out that one got loose from the zoo the other day, and I'm sure that the poor thing is terribly frightened, and that's why it's been causing so much...er, trouble.

[Have another awkward pause.]

In any case, it seems that it's...well, as unicorns tend to do, it seems this one isn't exactly fond of anyone that's--

[ANOTHER PAUSE.]

That is, it hasn't been hurting the...um, maidens of the City, as it were.

[Look, her awkwardness right now is palpable, okay?]

So, um, it would be the wise and sensible thing to do, I think, for anyone that's married or not...er, chaste, to use as much caution as possible when going out and about places today.

[Here is a pause, in which Rosella fidgets a bit and then clears her throat again.]

And if there are any...virtuous maidens--or boy maidens, I suppose, though it might take better to girls, just the same--that would be willing to help in subduing the poor thing and getting him back to the zoo where he belongs, please do let me know, and I'd be so very grateful for the help.

[And with that public service announcement completed, Rosella shuts off her Network device with a relieved click.]

[OOC: Unicornanigans! Just in time for Christmas. ELITE SQUAD OF VIRGINS, this is your recruitment post! And in the spirit of the curse today, feel free to threadjack everywhere, discuss with everyone, try to make Rosella actually say the word "virgin" (if you CAN)...and just generally have fun!]

She was, very much so. She helped me save my father's life.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was meant to introduce myself, wasn't I? I'm terribly sorry, I just got a bit carried away--I'm Rosella. Er, that is, Princess Rosella of Daventry.

Oh, then I'm very glad. Our rulers can be wonderful.

[A tiny little laugh.] Ma'am, please, think nothing of it. I was going to figure out a way to cast the cantrip regardless, I only thought you didn't want to give your name and I thought it'd be presumptuous to inquire after it. It's an honor to meet you.

She really was. I'd like very much to go back and visit her sometime, too, but--well, of course I'd have to get back home first.

It's a bad habit of mine, I'm afraid, forgetting to introduce myself. And I'm a bit carried away with all this mess over that poor unicorn, so I'm forgetting myself all over the place in everything else on top of it, too. And it's lovely to meet you as well...Philomena, was it? Just Rosella is fine, really.

The perpetual problem of this city, 'when we go home'.

Philomena or Charlotte, I answer to either, and are you certain? It's just that I might be rather afraid of--I don't know, clapping myself in irons if I started speaking familiarly to a princess, out of sheer fae compulsion. Unless the custom of your country is that you go by your given name? Etiquette is such a delicate thing.

Well, they're both so lovely! But I'll be glad to use whichever you prefer.

It's not exactly the custom in Daventry, no--I'd be Princess Rosella there, of course, except to my parents and brother--but on the other hand, this isn't Daventry, and with so many different people from so many different places all together in this City, it seems a bit silly to insist on my title, when it really doesn't make much difference at all whether I have it or not.

In light of the fact that for once I'm actually doing anything--Philomena would be lovely, thank you.

That's a wonderful way to look at it, and you do Daventry credit with your deportment, if I may venture the compliment on such short acquaintance. I really ought to get to that cantrip so I don't make a mess of it but it's been a real pleasure to speak to you, and I hope we can speak again some time after you've handled this whole unicorn business.
